Childbirth Experience - Valerie Mantz
The students will either write about the birth of their own infants or will interview a mother about the birth of her infant(s) from another culture using the reflective questions from the template provided to them. The following class the students will share their experience or interview. In a community setting where diversity is not as prevalent, this assignment is useful to explore birthing experiences over the generations by interviewing women from different generations.

Cultural Posters - Neil Foltz
Students are expected to create a poster presentation designed to educate the rest of the class about their cultural or ethnic background. Because this is a nursing course, students focus their cultural analysis on health-related issues. Over the course of the quarter, each student will be given an opportunity to teach his or her classmates about this aspect of their culture with a short presentation.

Orientation Scavenger Hunt - Paul Baeder
This is an orientation day scavenger hunt and fact finding activity. The students will go throughout the campus collecting litter and recyclable items and searching for and recording certain facts. This activity adds two additional elements to the standard student scavenger hunt - it promotes cultural awareness and the Green effort on campus. It is not solely diversity-focused, but instead imbeds a focus on diversity into regular classroom activity.

Hidden Biases - Glenda Hanson
Studies show people can be consciously committed to egalitarianism, and deliberately work to behave without prejudice, yet still possess hidden negative prejudices or stereotypes. So even though we believe we see and treat people as equals, hidden biases may still influence our perceptions and actions. This activity helps students explore their biases in a safe environment and reflect on how these hidden prejudices affect relationship in and out of the workplace. Main activities include a private online activity, personal reflection, and classroom discussion.
